What I Believe
John 14:6 says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
It doesn’t get any clearer than this. From Jesus own mouth He specifically and clearly explains that He is the only way. This means that you are to be in Christ and He is to be in you. That’s what it’s all about.
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)
Jesus is the narrow gate and difficult way because truly being in Christ means being counter to the world - being in the world, not of the world. “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” (John 15:18-19)
Yet Jesus says that “My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:30). No need to fear the Savior is here!
The key to overcoming the ways of the world is an intimate relationship with Jesus.
Merriam-Webster defines intimacy like this:
- close personal relationship especially marked by affection or love
- a relationship marked by depth of knowledge or broadness of information
- complete intermixture, compounding, or interweaving
That’s why in Matthew 7:21-23 Jesus says, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness (iniquity)!’”
Let us not forget that not only is Jesus our Savior, Redeemer, Lamb of God - He is also Lord. Merriam-Webster defines Lord like this “one having power and authority over others: a ruler by hereditary right or preeminence to whom service and obedience are due.”
If you are wondering why I am so passionate about Jesus Christ, it’s because after years of rebellion and total disregard of His love for me - His sacrifice for me - He forgave me when I repented. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
